The Library Media Center is supplied with an assortment of tools and to actively participate in educational process and to make a positive impact on the students.
Among the variety of services the WBAIS Library Media Center (LMC) provides to its patrons, there are some that are of particular interest to teachers: Promoting reading, viewing (? what?), and listening (to what?) by students; providing information skills; helping teachers in the design, implementation, and evaluation of resources and instructions; compiling different resource collections for research projects; delivering mini-lessons on writing research papers procedures; and assisting in using educational technology.
At the same time, the LMC expects teachers endorsement to support and model the patron rules of conduct while in the library.
No food or drinks No cell phones No computer games, and Follow the AIS Acceptance User Policy (AUP) applied to computer use in the library. LMC Facilities, their Reservations, and Classes:
Study Area: an area behind the librarian’s back desk. It holds 8 Eight large tables that are used for individual and class work are located at the back of the library. Teachers should reserve the period you want to bring your class for research work in advance with the librarian.
Independent Work: You may send up to three students to do independent research, reading, and to return or check out books anytime during the day class time. Students must have a pass from the teacher in order to enter the library. If you want the student(s) to return to class at a specific time, please indicate this on the pass.
Substitute teachers: If you have a substitute teacher, your lesson plan should not include library visits unless you have made special arrangements with the librarian in advance.
Computer Area: comprises There are 9 computers in the LMC designated for use on a and is considered a “drop in” basis.
The library computers are not booked for classes. Classes needing computers should view an availability of computer labs in online schedule - calendar and will have to reserve a computer lab one of the labs by emailing [email protected]. Elementary students are not allowed to use computers without supervision.
Library Classroom: is equipped with equipped with A TV-set and DVD/VCR player and Smartboard connected to LCD projector are available in the library classroom. Reservations for the classroom are made through the front desk. If you plan to use Smartboard, try it out before your class starts make sure it is working properly check its work before your class starts to catch possible malfunction The remote control for the projector should be checked out from the librarian and returned after your class.

Teacher Resource Room (TRR) - The library provides teacher resources and work space next to the periodicals. Books and catalogs may be checked out on the same basis as other library materials.
Elementary Library – six computers, tables and amphitheater are available for elementary classes. Classes taught in this area are coordinated with the librarian in advance. Elementary students are not allowed to use computers and stay in the library during lunch and after school without teacher (adult) supervision.
Elementary School library classes:
Fixed scheduled weekly classes– Each class will be assigned one period per week to visit the library. The librarian will provide instruction and supervision during this period. Teachers / teacher aides are expected to bring and pick up their students on time. Flex scheduled classes may be scheduled for more than one period during the week to accommodate special projects.
Missed classes because of school holidays are not made up. You may, however, schedule a time for your class to come in and check out books if you have missed a class.
Missed classes because of a field trip, assembly, etc. will be made up if you can swap your scheduled class time with another class that week. Please give the librarian 24 hours notice.
Elementary students are welcome to return and check out books before school, during morning recess or during lunch every day.
Additional class time in the library for reading, research or computer use is scheduled through the librarian. You may send up to three unaccompanied students to the library any time during the day provided they have a pass from the teacher.
LOAN PERIODS for Teachers: Books, may be checked out for as long as they are needed. Reference books may be checked out over night. Current newspapers and magazines (the ones on the racks) may be checked out after school for overnight use, but must be returned before school begins the following morning. No reservations may be made for those issues. Back issues of periodicals (kept on the shelf) may be checked out for three weeks.
Textbooks The library catalogs textbooks upon request. Teachers should provide information about the number of copies and price. It is the teacher’s responsibility to have students check textbooks out through the library.
Digital Collections The library subscribes to a number of online databases highly recommended for research, reference, current events, and reading. Those databases that have direct access from campus are listed on the library webpage. Access information for off campus use can be found at the same library page under Online Collections>Click Here for Passwords. Upon request, the library staff will provide training sessions for your classes on using the databases and show tips how to search efficiently. The library staff will also help teachers collect online educational materials for classes and add the collections of links to the “Teachers’ Favorites” page on the library website.
Audio-Visual materials A collection of videos and music CDs is stored in the back room of the Teacher Resource Room. These items may only be checked out to teachers. Videos and DVDs may be checked out to students of the Video Production class. The list of the students should be submitted to the library by the teacher.
Educational Technology The librarians promote educational technology use in classes and assist teachers in using technological tools. They also provide training sessions upon the request.
A/V Equipment All A/V equipment is checked out from the library in the teacher’s name and teachers are responsible for all equipment they borrow from the library. We ask you to help the library provide the best service by bringing any technical problem to the immediate attention of the staff. Be sure and store your equipment in a LOCKED cabinet in your classroom when you are not there.
TV-sets, VCRs, Overhead Projectors and trolleys are placed in classrooms permanently. DVD and DVD/VCR players can be checked out for the year.
Remote controls are checked out for the year by the teachers and kept in the library for summer break. Ask the library staff to replace bulbs for the overhead projectors when necessary.
CD-players: The library provides CD players, at least one for the department. Warning:Playing homemade disks on CD-players can cause damage to the machines. MP-3 copies can be played on the combo model of DVD/VCR players.
LCD projectors are ceiling-mounted in several classroom and are connected to Smartboards. The remote control and VGA cable must be checked out from the library and returned at the end of the school year. LCD projectors can be checked out from the library on a daily basis. Because of demand, it is recommended you reserve an LCD projector at least 24 hours in advance. LCD projectors should be returned to the library as soon as possible after use, and should not be kept in the classroom overnig
Digital Still Cameras: Each elementary school grade level (KG - 5) is provided with one still digital camera and a battery charger. The camera and the charger are checked out to a teacher for the year. This teacher is responsible for returning the equipment at the end of the school year. The cameras should be stored in a closed cabinet, kept locked when not in use, or return it to the library.
Middle and High School teachers can check cameras for classes on a daily basis.
Note: Teachers are responsible for knowing how to use the camera. The library will provide training in advance on using the equipment upon request.
If teachers want their students to use equipment, a training session should be set up with the librarian before students use the equipment.
The Journalism/Yearbook and Video Production Class teachers train their students on using professional cameras. After the students have received sufficient training, the teacher submits a list of students who are allowed to check the equipment out to the library. The library staff will only check cameras out to students who are in the list.
Digital Video Cameras: The library provides a video camera, videotape, and a tripod to teachers for taping, if needed. Booking of the equipment must be done two working days prior to the day in which the videotaping is planned. The librarian will help the teacher with setting up the equipment and show how to use the video camera. It is recommended that teachers do videotaping themselves or ask only those students who have training in using video equipment to do so. The teacher can ask the librarian to videotape the class, if necessary. The librarian checks availability of the library staff and contact the teacher if there is a conflict.
Note: Before making a plan to videotape, answer to the following questions: 1. What is the purpose of videotaping? How long will the video be? - Still digital cameras can be used to videotape short presentations (3 – 8 minute long clips). Clips are easier to download to the computer and don’t require special software and additional computer memory. 2. What are you going to do with the tape? Return it to the library? keep it for class purposes and show the tape to the students? Transfer the tape to CD/DVD? ask for duplicating? etc.? - If you plan to keep the tape for class purposes please provide a mini DV (60 min) to replace the tape taken from the library, - If you plan to ask the librarian to transfer the tape on a CD/DVD, the library will burn a copy and store it in the library video collection. You can check the disk out at any time. The library stores class documents for three years. - If the teacher wants each student have a copy and asks the librarian to duplicate the disk, the librarian will do it for additional cost (each copy costs 50 NIS). Allow up to 5 working days for completing the job. - If you plan to show the tape directly from the camera, be sure to book the camera for those days that you plan to use it.
Laptops for teachers: Teachers have the privilege to use a laptop checked out from the library for the year. When checking the laptop out, the teacher signs a responsibility form.
Screens can be checked out on a daily basis.
Alphasmarts are available for check outto students from Resource Center (RC) or to other students with the permission from the RC. Students and their parents sign a Responsibility Form accepting liability for costs of repair if necessary.
Videotaping

The library provides a video camera, videotape, and other equipment for taping, if needed.

The librarian helps the teacher with setting up the equipment and assisting in learning to use the video camera. It is recommended that teachers do videotaping themselves or ask students who have training in using video equipment to do so. The teacher can ask the librarian to assist them with videotaping an on-campus class. The librarian checks availability of the library staff and contact the teacher if there is a conflict. Each event that is taken is burned on DVD for the library collection. The DVD can be checked out from the library as a regular video.
